Mission Statement:
"Main Street Advisors will be recognized in the community it serves as a competent boutique financial advisor and consultant firm to thoughtful, conservative delegators who influence or control sizable investable assets, by providing education, expertise, assurance, personal service, and trust."
Our Difference:
Main Street Advisors, LLC is a completely independent, fee-only Registered Investment Advisor firm based in Westminster, Maryland.
What we do best is instill "money" confidence in our clients through our advisory services so that they sleep well at night. Not only do we manage investments for our delegator clients, we also assist them in making smart decisions as we integrate the other key areas of financial planning: cash flow/income sourcing, risk management, tax reduction, retirement planning, and estate planning. The proper coordination of one's investments with the other areas of financial planning is crucial to the long-term effectiveness and efficiency of one's "money". Main Street Advisors accepts fiduciary responsibility.
We always place a client's interests first, and truly "step into your shoes" on every financial matter you encounter. These are more than words. Very few investment advisors or financial planning firms "step up" and take the responsibility a "fiduciary oath" conveys. In ours, Main Street Advisors, LLC unequivocally states that we:
- receive our revenues exclusively from the fees our clients pay;
- receive no outside remuneration from any other firm or entity; and
- have no other interest except to help our clients save money or make more money, within the parameters of risk or volatility agreed to.
Why should you care about this issue? We want you to believe unquestionably that we wil always be on "your side" in any financial transaction or investment. The root of the word fiduciary is fides, which means trust or faith. The word fidelity shares the same root. A fiduciary is one who has power or discretion over someone else's interest, especially his money. Along with the power bestowed upon a fiduciary comes an obligation to put the interests of the client, plan, or beneficiary first. This is a major difference between our firm and the well-known national brokerage firms. Brokers for these firms ar not fiduciaries because their first duty is to their employers. They will so advise you if you ask. Since they must place the interest of their employer above those of their clients, you can never be sure if the advice they give is purely in your own best interest. Would anyone, if given a choice, prefer an arrangement like that? We don't think so. Selecting a financial advisor is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. An advisor must be responsive to your unique needs and be someone you can count on for years to come. Our clients come to us because they find that they lack at least one of the three necessities of handling money issues by themselves: time, desire, or ability. So we understand that we must strive to "step into their shoes", financially speaking, and earn their trust. We believe in always placing the needs of our clients first, and that all matters of "money" require absolute honesty and integrity. We realize that the benefits our clients seek begin with - but do not end with - competence. They also demand convenience, respect, caring, and (once again) integrity.
Client Process:
We employ a five-step asset management process.
-
We determine your risk profile and objectives through personal consultations with you. A personal profile is developed of your individual investment needs and objectives, time horizon, and attitudes toward investing.
-
We develop and set a personalized asset allocation policy based on your needs and objectives. This policy maximizes your investment returns relative to your risk tolerance through the carefully diversified allocation of your investments, especially the all-important mix of "growth vs. fixed-income".
-
Your asset allocation strategy is implemented and diversified across several asset classes and within proven management styles by investing in proven money management firms.
-
Your investment portfolio is carefully monitored on an ongoing basis to ensure it is properly balanced, and to take incremental advantage of periodic market opportunities as they arise. We also monitor each manager on several levels, especially performance against appropriate benchmarks.
-
We communicate with you on a regular basis and provide a comprehensive reporting package, which includes quarterly rates of return, monthly position reports, detailed transactions, and year-end tax reporting.
Of course, all of this is properly coordinated within your overall financial plan, and can be communicated with your CPA and attorney as you wish. We also encourage grown children of mature seniors to ensure that their parents' hard-earned money is being effectively and efficiently utilized.
The process we utilize begins with the taking of a financial snapshot of a client's "financial world", including the review of financial documents such as tax returns and the listing of a client's most important concerns. It is usually at this point that the initial scope of any service can be estimated, which can begin with a more thorough written review. If work is to continue and an engagement is agreed upon, the meeting notes and financial documents are carefully reviewed and a written overview of observations and recommendations is prepared.
